They get a bad rap, like tables, because they are frequently misused. I can’t, however, think of a better way to get this functionality. What people wanted was a view of their post exactly as it would appear on the blog. The iframe gives us that window.

As for live preview… the problem is that we would have to save the post as a draft before we could update the iframe, which might be undesirable. Also, you can’t exactly be typing and looking at a live preview at the same time… it’s rather a back-and-forth process (which is why I created the edit/preview links for jumping between).
