Awesome! The current preview function on WordPress leaves a bit to be desired particular with all the custom div tags I have on my site.

  2. Bill says:

Very nice! Is this available as a plugin?

    Yes, It’s spiffy!

  8. [...] Ryan says that now we have the post preview feature if we save our post first as a draft. Thanks Ryan, since I usually just hit the publish button after I write anything, I won’t know it if it’s not because of you. I wonder if there are any other way to preview a post other that to save it as a draft first. But it’s okay. I may as well try it myself. But if only there are other way… [...]

Very cool, thanks a lot :)

  14. Excellent!

Now, if we could get our inline styles back in post content, wordpress.com users would really be dancing and rioting with joy in the streets. ;-)

  15. [...] Users of wordpress.com woke up this morning to a new feature, one I’ve mentioned before and also described in my post on The Perfect WordPress Dashboard. It is the ability to “see” your post preview in your WordPress Theme – giving you a live preview of what your post will look like when published using the CSS styles used by your Theme – in fact, you see your post in your Theme. [...]

What would be really cool is if you could find a way to make it a live preview without the need to save a draft in order to see it.

Very cool regardless, though. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to edit posts after the fact because of spelling mistakes, mislinks and forgetting to close a tag.

  17. La Bella says:

    That is so cool…
yeah… is it available as a plugin for WP?
    I’m confused.

  18. Ihad says:

good things come to those who wait :)

  19. ryan says:

This is built into WP 1.6. There might be some plugins that add this for 1.5.x, I’m not sure.

If you have a wp.com site, this is already live.

  20. [...] I just notice that we have full previews of posts under our editing window. If you click ‘Save and Continue Editing’ you’ll see a full page preview at the bottom of the page. It’s a great touch and a nice improvement to see what our actual posts will look like when we click ‘Publish’. I’m a whole day late on the new feature. [...]

Yargh, live preview would be awesome, still looks fine and dandy as is. :) No more keeping another tab open and swapping between for me. :D

  22. craig says:

ryan, can we get this showing the blog on publish as an option?
    ta.

  23. Mathias says:

    Didn’t Matt one say:

I have done some terrible things in my life but I have never made a site with frames.

  24. kus says:

    cant wait for plugins

  25. wil says:

Freakin awesome. can’t wait to use this.

  26. markku says:

This is great news! Now I’m all hyped up for 1.6! :)

  27. Nick Momrik says:

1.6 is looking great. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now. Does anyone really follow the “Still do not use” warnings? ;-)

  28. Mark Jaquith says:

Well, frames and iframes are tools. They get a bad rap, like tables, because they are frequently misused. I can’t, however, think of a better way to get this functionality. What people wanted was a view of their post exactly as it would appear on the blog. The iframe gives us that window.

As for live preview… the problem is that we would have to save the post as a draft before we could update the iframe, which might be undesirable. Also, you can’t exactly be typing and looking at a live preview at the same time… it’s rather a back-and-forth process (which is why I created the edit/preview links for jumping between).

My thoughts on the feature are here.

  29. [...] After completing my morning ritual of 1000 situps/50 pushups/20 jumping-jacks, I decided to put a free day to some use. I have been contemplating installing the new alpha release of WordPress, as it implements several new features that would make my life a lot easier, namely AJAX. AJAX allows for the manipulation of data without re-rendering the webpage. This is extremely useful in many applications – from commenting, to previewing a post before you’ve written it. AJAX has been around for many years now, but only now have I seen its real potential. [...]
