PhotoDude offers a very good opinion piece concerning bin Laden’s confession and the capture of Mazar-e-Sharif.
Those who are opposed to this war, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, must now face the admitted facts of what they support. They support the continuation of a regime that regularly kills thousands of innocent Afghans, whose leaders have admitted to the attacks on the US that killed thousands more innocents, and claim to have weapons of mass destruction whose target will surely be more innocents. Those who say we should be backing some UN brokered solution can argue with Osama, not us: “Under no circumstances should any Muslim or sane person resort to the United Nations.”
Given these “new facts” (let’s face it, we’ve known it in our hearts all along, even those who wouldn’t admit it, we just have a confession now), how can you look at yourself in the mirror? You may not realize it, but when you oppose the war, you support the enemy. There is no middle ground with a regime that has killed thousands and thousands of innocents, Muslim and non-Muslim, freely admits it, and is clearly intending to continue doing so with weapons of mass destruction. These are now documented facts, and black and white confessions. Which side do you support? A or B? There is no C.
And there is no doubt. Go look in the mirror with this new knowledge, and see what you see.
Then tell the people of Mazar-e-Sharif that their current circumstances (women can walk the streets and get an education, men can do risky things like … shave) are the result of US violence, genocide, and oppression. Ask them if they’d like to go back under the Taliban’s rule. Decide if you think their opinion and actual circumstances mean more than yours.
And the next time you wail about how US bombing is nothing but genocide on Afghans that has killed thousands with no other result, realize you are telling a Big Fat Lie in the name of supporting a now admitted mass murderer.
Well said.
