Let’s think about this. Which is more powerful and threatening, big government or big corporations? Seeing as how multi-national corporations buy legislation, bankroll presidential campaigns, and seem even to influence the judiciary, it’s a tough question. Lately, we seem to have a fourth branch of government. And given its recent track record, it does not have our best interest at heart. We have seen corporations attack fair use and free speech repeatedly. They are invading our privacy at every turn. They want to make it so that we own nothing but merely lease their “Intellectual Property” for awhile. They claim to own the thoughts and knowledge in an employee’s head. We need to have a government which stems these abuses, not one which codifies these abuses into law. How many times has the DMCA been thrown in the faces of those of us trying to create free software? The whole situation stinks. For those who believe that the market should dictate things and that there is little place for government, I say that right now corporations are in many ways worse than our government. Remember Eisenhower when he warned us about the military-industrial complex. He new powerful corporations had to be watched.
